The regular catechizing of children by their parents makes for a blessed foundation of knowledge regarding Christ and His church. While many parents would like to catechize their children, they often don’t know how and when to begin. For this reason Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church Sunday School has a systematic catechism program parents can employ for their children from age 3 to age 18!
This system employs Scripture Memorization as well as:
The Catechism for Young Children
The Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC)
Fisher’s Catechism (pdf download)
TBPC Church History Catechism
Each week a new catechism or Scripture verse can be memorized by parents and children, then recited to the child’s Sunday School teacher for special recognition and awards. The system breaks down by year spent in Sunday School:
- Age 3 (pre-k) - Children’s Catechism #’s 1-36.
- Age 4 (pre-k) - Children’s Catechism #’s 37-43, Life of Jesus Catechism #’s 1-30.
- Age 5 (kindergarten) - Life of Jesus Catechism #’s 31-67.
