Updates

August 11th, 2008

So what happened to the site?

Well, our old server was compromised and we found ourselves fighting off a malicious script.  We’ve transferred to a new, more secure server, and we’re in the process of rebuilding.

First priority is to get the site looking the way it’s supposed to, and then restoring the sermon archives.  It may take a while… but hopefully not too long before we get back to updating new sermons.

CAMP 2008 UPDATES

July 15th, 2008

CAMP TO BEGIN

As young people from across the presbytery are making their final preparations for camp I would like to urge the church family to remember them in your prayers. The camp experience can be a real time of spiritual growth, but the matter rests, ultimately in the hand of God.

Dr. Ed Oliver, who will be preaching in my absence on the 20th, will be speaking at camp also. Dr. Oliver was used by the Lord to better prepare me for serving Him and I have always been grateful for the way the Lord used him in my life. Now he is to speak to yet another generations and I pray that the Lord will continue to employ him in making a difference. His topics include: “Gleanings from BP History” and “Evangelistic Apologetics.”

Pastor Anderson, who will be helping to crank out the good meals we all enjoy, will be speaking to the campers on the Lord’s Day in Sunday School.

Rev. Steve Brinegar will be speaking on “What is the Gospel” and “Evangelizing the cults.” DR. Battle will be addressing the camp on Islam and “Evangelism in a Post-Modern World.” Rev. Huff is doing a message on missions and Rev. Lensch is to speak on evangelizing Muslims and develop the “Post-Modern” theme introduced by Dr. Battle. Rev. Lyro is to speak on “The Emergent Church” and the “Impetus for Missions.”

Doug Leaman will be leading the campfire lessons with our own George Peters. I will be teaching two lessons as well.

As you can see, this is a full schedule and it is possible that the messages will be available online eventually.

The NW Presbytery will also be meeting at camp to discuss committee reports and to handle some business relating to the Candidates and Credentials Committee.

I hope this preliminary report gives you some idea of how to direct your prayers.

Why a Prelude?

July 7th, 2008

The Directory for the Publick Worship of God, an act of Scotland’s Parliament in 1645 approving and establishing how worship should be approached, stated regarding the assembling of the congregation:

WHEN the congregation is to meet for publick worship, the people (having before prepared their hearts thereunto) ought all to come and join therein; not absenting themselves from the publick ordinance through negligence, or upon pretence of private meetings.

Let all enter the assembly, not irreverently, but in a grave and seemly manner, taking their seats or places without adoration, or bowing themselves towards one place or other.

The congregation being assembled, the minister, after solemn calling on them to the worshipping of the great name of God, is to begin with prayer.

Worship is not something to be entered into lightly, but with reverent seriousness. The prelude is not meant to be a cover for conversation, nor light entertainment while we wait for the “big show” to begin. The purpose of the prelude is to help provide a reverent atmosphere in which one may prepare himself by silent prayer for the corporate worship that is about to begin. Hopefully the music brings to mind God’s attributes, as well as reminders of His providential care for His people and the great grace that He has shown to us in Jesus Christ. The prelude, then, is not to be considered a pleasant and distracting time-filler, but an opportunity for the preparation of the heart for worship.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor GW Fisher
